As part of Odoo Experience 2019, which took place in Brussels, Belgium, from October 2 to 4, 2019, Odoo launched its latest version 13. In numerous presentations, talks, trainings and exhibitions, visitors were able to experience Odoo first-hand and familiarize themselves with the new features. In today's blog we focus on the Rental module, which is brand new with Odoo 13.

The Rental module of Odoo is aimed at companies that rent out products and it ensures a clear and smart management of rental products. Like other Odoo modules, the Rental module is characterized by a streamlined menu with a focus on the essential functionalities and ease of use.

The module's dashboard provides an overview of the rental orders and their invoices and can be conveniently filtered by status.

To illustrate rental processes, we start with the product configuration. This is based on the configuration of purchasing and sales products. Within the product, we can define that this product is a rental product. We then have the option of defining the product price and the costs for delay in a new tab. The price definition can be done step by step, whereby the product price can vary depending on duration and unit. This makes it possible to map price discounts or rebates.

Creating a rental order is very similar to creating a sales or purchasing order in the Sales and Purchasing modules. After selecting the customer and the rental product, a calendar opens, in which we specify for what period the product will be rented. After the order confirmation, the rental product is reserved for the selected period. Then, we get both the possibility to mark the rented product as "Picked-up", and can also invoice the customer for the rental price. Here we choose between a down payment and the total amount of the rental.

The confirmed order is marked as "Picked-up" and contains an invoice.

If the rental product is returned, we can mark it as "Returned" and the rental process is complete. If the agreed rental period is exceeded, the order is marked as "Late Return". As soon as the customer returns the rental product and it is marked as "Returned", Odoo automatically adds a new product line in the order, depending on the product configuration, which contains the costs for the delay. If we now create a second invoice for the order, the customer will be invoiced for the costs of the delay in addition to the first invoice.

In addition, the rental module offers a practical overview of all rental orders in the form of a Gantt display. Here we can filter by day, week, month or year and display the rental orders according to their status. This provides us not only with all processes at a glance, but also with a planning aid for further actions regarding the rental products, e.g. repairs, maintenance, cleaning, etc. depending on the rental product itself.

In addition, documents, such as rental agreements, can be digitized and signed directly by the customer on site using the Sign module. This saves additional administrative effort and offers central storage of all relevant documents for a specific order.

In conclusion, we can say that with the Rental module, Odoo gives us a practical and clear tool for managing rental products based on their availability. Similar to other modules, Odoo takes another step towards the digitization of business processes. Not only is all order-related information and documents mapped in one central location on one order, but the module also impresses with its intuitive operation and useful cross-module features.
