Odoo Experience 2022 took place at the beginning of October after a two-year break. The conference with over 12,000 participants from all over the world was held this year for the first time in the Brussels EXPO, the Brussels Trade Fair. In addition to more than 90 exhibitors, over 200 talks were held in 8 different locations. Talks covered everything about Odoo - from successful application examples in countless different areas, special customizations demonstrating the flexibility of the open-source ERP and of course all the innovations around the current Odoo version 16.
The official kick-off of the Odoo Experience was the opening keynote by Odoo founder Fabien Pinckear, who continued to reaffirm Odoo's ultimate goal. He also demonstrated how the company has come closer to this goal. True to the motto "Help people do more in less time", Pinckaers mainly showed the high speed of Odoo, by means of a comparison to its main competitor SAP: live, the creation of a sales order is demonstrated, for which it takes 40 seconds in SAP, but only 5 in Odoo. This high speed is the interaction of great usability and a fast and performant back-end, which Pinckaers calls "Blink-of-an-Eye-Performance" - the top development goal of Odoo 16.

Release Notes

Odoo

Modul Website

This "The eCommerce module is now 3.9 times faster compared to Odoo 15 and the Website module loads at 2.5 times faster speed.
Speaking of Website, the Website module has again seen some significant improvements over Odoo 15. Technically, the Website Builder was previously standalone and a link with the other apps was only possible in a cumbersome way. For example, to create a new product and store photos in this product, it was previously necessary to create the corresponding data in the backend. With Odoo 16, the Website Builder has been placed in the backend, so that these things can now be edited quite easily. So this major technical change now ensures that the Website Builder is not only more efficient and faster, but also easier to use.
The mobile optimization of Odoo websites has also been tackled. This means that websites can now also be edited in the mobile view and, for example, special snippets can be hidden from mobile users or other snippets can only be displayed on mobile devices. Those who work with the website now also have much greater freedom in design: the new grid layout of the snippets allows them to be designed much more freely and combined creatively. This makes the web pages even more individually customizable. In addition, new shapes in the form of a smartphone, laptop or browser shapes have been added, with which digital offers on the website can be visualized much better. For a modern design and better readability of the website provides the "animation while scrolling". These changes provide a much higher, greater freedom in the design of the website and make it much easier to work with the website builder.
Another technical change is the integration of Plausible Analytics, an alternative to Google Analytics. Since Plausible Analytics runs directly on your own server or website, cookie banners are no longer necessary. No more data is passed on to third parties.

Introduction of the chatbot

Another facilitation in customer service is the introduction of the Odoo chatbot. This can answer questions intelligently and offer targeted jobs in recruiting, for example.

New app: knowledgebase

Shared knowledge in a company is often another important, but often overlooked resource. To harness this resource, Odoo has introduced a new app in version 16: the Knowledgebase. This is basically a workspace, which on the one hand has access to all other modules and also makes it possible to create documents and edit them together (similar to Google Docs, for example). In the knowledgebase, for example, to-do and idea lists can be created, a cover and icons for various documents can be added and generally all functions can be used.
More information about knowledge management in companies and the Knowledge module in Odoo 16 can be found here.

Innovations in the manufacture module

A barcode makes it easy to design a manufacturing process: the app shows the location of the individual components and the user can use the barcode scanner to confirm that he has assembled the correct parts. If all the parts have been assembled correctly, Odoo automatically generates the corresponding work order. This can then display the individual work steps as assembly instructions so that the job can be carried out quickly and easily; the Odoo IoT Box can also be integrated here. For quality management, it is also interesting that a photo can now also be requested in some steps to ensure that the manufacturing or assembly process of a workpiece has been carried out correctly. Also new in version 16 is the ability to provide feedback from the production line directly to engineers and managers. These noted change suggestions show up in the backend in the PLM (Product Lifecycle) module.

Innovations in the warehouse

New in the warehouse is now that each operation in the system is customizable, such as a barcode scan duty, or the duty to scan a serial number. This gives Odoo even more customization options!

Innovations in accounting

Credit limits can now be adjusted directly in the contact and are displayed when a new invoice is created. In addition, outstanding payments also appear in the Sales team.

There is also a new analytics widget that has been completely redesigned. No more tags and groups, but "Analytic Plans" with their own values, which can be customized. These can be "not available", "required fields" or "optional".

Cash discounts can now be set immediately in the payment terms, not only for customers but also for suppliers. Invoices can also be edited in the template on the right. In case of errors, the "Reload all Data" button helps, as all changes are now automatically saved. It is also advantageous that for payments without an invoice (e.g. rent) a recurring invoice (e.g. monthly) can now be created from the first invoice. Meanwhile, more than 27,000 banks worldwide can be linked with Odoo and account statements are now optionally selectable.

New dashboard

All key figures and graphs are visible at a glance. From Accounting, Sales, CRM, Events up to Live Chats... everything is displayed and interconnected (e.g. employees - expenses - expense reports, etc.). The dashboards are completely customizable through the spreadsheets, and access them in the background (via insert - chart). The charts are also completely customizable and fully dynamic.

At the end of Odoo Experience 2022, Dark Mode was also released for the entire system, a request often expressed by the community. Do you have further questions about the new version of Odoo, or do you want to introduce it yourself but need support? Then contact us now ,we are happy to help you!
