The use of an ERP system offers companies many advantages. The digitalization and mapping of entrepreneurial processes, the interaction between the various departments, and the internal and external communication options are just a few examples of how an ERP system can support us. The heart of such a system, and thus the most important component, is represented by the centralized and structured data. Consistency, i.e. the correctness of this data, should be a top priority.
When we talk about data consistency in Odoo, we are primarily concerned with contacts and products. These two objects are created and stored centrally in Odoo and are controlled by the other modules. While we need the products for example in the modules Purchasing, Sales, Manufacturing, Rental or Field Service, we have the possibility to assign a contact in almost every module.
Conversely, this means the following - if we maintain our data cleanly and completely and ensure that it is consistent, then we not only save time in subsequent processes, but also increase our efficiency. The quality of the initial data creation has a direct influence on the further work in the system.
If we now work in Odoo over a longer period of time, the amount of data also increases. Consequently, it is completely normal that our data quality suffers. Typing errors, recreating an existing contact, or the renewed customer inquiry that we already received last week - these use cases are probably familiar to many people. So what do we do when the quality of our data in Odoo deteriorates over time?
For this we have developed the manaTec Merge Tool. With this module we enable the merging of multiple created objects in Odoo. The Merge Tool works across all Odoo modules and can be enabled for the individual data models depending on the modules used. For incorrectly merged data, a log file can be created with which the merge can be undone.
